Summer is right around the corner, and most of us are dreaming of lazy days spent at the beach.

Pre-kids, beach day preparations involved shoving some essentials in a bag and deciding which beach to visit. However, when it comes to spending the day with your kids at the beach, I find there is a lot more preparation work to be done to achieve that lazy day in the sun.

Does last summer’s swimwear still fit? Do I have the right sun protection? Do last year’s beach shoes still fit? Are last year’s beach toys still in one piece? These are all the questions I find myself asking in advance of the first beach trip of the year. That’s before I have even thought about how to make sure any replacements for outgrown beachwear or broken toys are sustainable. It’s enough to make your head spin.

The good news is that if you are looking for eco-friendly beachwear for kids, as well as more sustainable beach toys this summer, then Kidly is a great one-stop shop for almost all of your summer essentials.

If you’re not familiar with the brand, Kidly is a retailer of design-led and parent-approved essentials for 0-5 year-olds. Kidly is always focused on finding innovative, conscious brands to stock. What’s more, Kidly is always looking to make its own brand – Kidly Label – more sustainable. From environmentally friendly materials to planet-conscious packaging, everything is carefully considered.

Kidly’s Eco-Friendly Beachwear & Beach Toys

Kidly’s eco-friendly summer shop ticks many eco-conscious boxes. This makes it easy for eco-minded parents to get almost everything they need for the summer holidays and days at the beach, all in one place.

Recycled Kids Swimwear

A selection of eco-friendly beach wear and beach toys, all in the colour green, from Kidly.

In Kidly’s summer shop, you’ll find Kidly Label sustainable beachwear, all of which is made from 80% recycled pre-consumer nylon waste.

Pre-consumer waste means that the recycled nylon used has been reclaimed from industrial processes, and would have been discarded before it was ready for consumer use. This could include scraps of material from factories that would have otherwise been downcycled, downgraded or sent to landfill.

When it comes to swimwear, nylon is used because it’s incredibly lightweight, and gives swimwear its strength. However, nylon is a petroleum-based material. This means that producing new nylon is both energy-intensive and emits greenhouse gases.

Choosing recycled nylon helps to reuse materials that would otherwise have gone to waste. It also reduces greenhouse gas emissions from manufacturing and helps to lessen our dependence on both petroleum and virgin plastics.

At Kidly, you’ll find recycled kid’s swim shorts to long surf sets, through to rash vests and swimsuits – both with and without sleeves. You’ll also find sun suits, again made from recycled nylon, and sun hats offering maximum coverage. These come in a wide range of fun coordinating colours, and all offer UPF 50+ sun protection.

For extra peace of mind, all of Kidly’s own label swimwear is also OEKO-TEX certified. This means that Kidly’s products have been independently tested and are proven to be free of harmful levels of toxic substances.

As well as swimwear, you’ll also find sustainable kid’s sunglasses made from recycled materials. With Category 3 UV400 protection, these help to protect young eyes from the sun’s rays. Meanwhile, if you are looking for sandals to help protect little feet from sharp rocks, then Kidly’s jelly shoes are phthalate and BPA-free. Kidly really have thought of everything!

Eco-Friendly Beach Toys

Kidly has even taken care of the fun with its eco-friendly beach toys. Here you’ll find a range of buckets and spades in fun colours, all made from silicone.

Silicone isn’t plastic, it’s a synthetic rubber. As such it doesn’t break down into microplastics that can pollute our seas. Silicone is also much more durable, meaning those beach toys will last for years to come.

For easy packaging, Kidly’s bucket also folds flat. This makes it easier to pack into your bag for a day of fun at the beach. Holding 2 litres of sand, it folds down to an impressive 5 cm. The easy-to-hold deep-scooped spade also makes it easier for little hands to dig in the sand.

Dantoy recycled marine plastic toys

As well as buckets and spades, Kidly also stocks eco-friendly beach toys made entirely from recycled fishing nets and ropes. This range, made by Danish toymaker Dantoy, as well as being made from recycled materials, doesn’t contain any harmful substances, such as phthalates, perfumes or BPA.

As you can see, Kidly have almost taken care of everything when it comes to having fun in the sun. All you need now is the sun to shine (and your sunscreen) and you’re good to go! Here’s a useful guide to ethical sunscreen, should you need any pointers on what to look for in a good sunscreen.

PS: Don’t forget, you can recycle paddling pools and other inflatables!
