Over the last few years, the natural and organic beauty brand Green People has been busy reducing the amount of single-use plastics across its range of skincare and haircare products.

First, it released its One Balm – a multipurpose organic beauty balm – which is packaged in the UK’s first 100% biodegradable pot. And now, Green People has turned its attention to its hair care range, with the launch of a new collection of plastic-free shampoo bars.

I’ve always been a fan of Green People’s hair care range. Its organic shampoos are silicone-free and Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) free, and perform beautifully. So, with three new organic shampoo bars in its collection for different hair types, all lasting up to sixty washes each, I was excited to try out its new plastic-free offerings.

With a Citrus & Ginger bar for smoothing and protecting, a Eucalyptus & Mint anti-itch bar, and a Scent-Free bar, Green People let me have a shot of all three. Here’s how I got on!

Citrus & Ginger Smooth & Protect Shampoo Bar

Green People says of its Citrus & Ginger shampoo bar: “smooth and recover dry, damaged hair with this hydrating and repairing blend of Babassu, Pracaxi and Argan plant oils. For easy combing and strong, protected hair.”

And I have to say the citrus and ginger bar has quickly become my new go-to shampoo bar. The zesty scent of citrus and ginger is invigorating and helps get you going in the morning. Meanwhile, the shampoo quickly works up to a rich foam that rinses away easily.

As the shampoo bar is soap-free, there’s been zero transition phase, like when you switch to a soap-based shampoo bar. This means my hair doesn’t feel greasy, waxy or limp after use. Instead, my hair feels clean, soft and nourished. I’ve also found that it’s doing a great job at smoothing my ever-increasing grey hairs that have a tendency to frizz.

Scent-Free Repairing Anti-Frizz Shampoo Bar

For those that want the benefits of the citrus and ginger shampoo bar, but prefer scent-free options then opt for this scent-free frizz-repairing bar. It has all the properties of the citrus and ginger bar, just without any of the scent. This makes it ideal for people with allergies or scent sensitivities.

Sometimes with scent-free products, there can be a slight smell coming from the ingredients used. I can confirm there’s not even a hint of a scent. This doesn’t stop it from generating a rich, cleansing foam that is gentle on your hair.

Personally, I prefer a bit of scent to my shampoo so it wouldn’t be my first choice. However, in the interests of research, I have been trying it out and my hair does love it. Those greys aren’t so frizzy and are definitely more manageable!

Eucalyptus & Mint Soothing Anti-Itch Shampoo Bar

Next up is the Eucalyptus & Mint Soothing Anti-Itch Shampoo Bar. Green People says “Support healthy microflora and prevent an itchy scalp with this soothing blend of Celery Seed Extract, Avocado and Macadamia Seed Oils designed to provide comfort to both oily and dry scalps.”

This soap-free blend performs similarly to the other bars. An itchy or oily scalp isn’t something I’m bothered with, so I can’t comment on its effectiveness in terms of soothing an itch or tackling oil. However, I do really like the smell. This zingy eucalyptus and mint shampoo bar really wakes you up in the morning! In fact, I would use this bar for the smell alone. Luckily, it also left my hair feeling soft and shiny.

How To Use The Shampoo Bars

It’s really easy to use Green People’s new shampoo bars. To use simply wet your hair and then rub the bar into your hair. Massage thoroughly to work up a good lather, and rinse. Job done! To make your bar last as long as possible, make sure you read my guide on how to store shampoo bars correctly. Store them wrong and you could be quite literally washing money down the drain!
