Looking for some UK holiday ideas?  Why not try the Isle of Wight?

Throughout my selection of travel posts, I’m hoping to show you some fantastic places to holiday here at home in the UK, without the need for any long-haul flights.

First up were some stunning places to stay in Scotland.  Travelling much further south today, the Isle of Wight is a fantastic summer paradise. It’s easily accessible by ferry and high-speed boat (if you’re travelling without a car) from both Southampton and Portsmouth. These cities are in turn quick and easy to get to from London.  As such the Isle of Wight makes for a fantastic flight-free holiday destination.

The Isle of Wight boasts a beautiful coastline, with some stunning beaches. And the island has an average summer temperature of 20°C. Which at 5°C higher than here in Edinburgh, sounds downright tropical to me!

I’ve visited the Isle of Wight a few times now, and have always been won over by its sleepy laid-back charms, its jaunty seaside towns, and glorious countryside.

There are lots of things to do for all ages and interests on the Isle of Wight. What’s more, the island has ambitious plans to be a wholly Eco Island. Here it aims to be a flagship for renewable energy generation and energy storage and have its own miniature smart electricity network.

Isle of Wight Vintage Vacations

If all of this has persuaded you to pay a visit, then the Isle of Wight has some amazing holiday accommodation.  If you’re looking for a particularly unique place to stay on the Isle of Wight then I came across Vintage Vacations, based near Ryde.

I stumbled upon them through photographer Emma Case’s blog.  Emma holidayed here last year, and her photos are so stunning that I instantly added this to my list of must-visit places to stay in the UK!

What makes Vintage Vacations special is that they have a fantastic collection of old restored air streams and British caravans available for you to stay in. These look absolutely amazing and would make for such a memorable summer holiday on the Isle of Wight.

The air streams are fully equipped with everything you will need for your holiday. Each air stream is fitted with a kitchen, and most are fitted with showers.  They even come complete with a set of vintage board games to complete the holiday vibe!

Selected air streams can sleep up to six, and prices start at £95 per night.

Now please do excuse me, I’m off to search for cheap trains down south…!

Have you holidayed on the Isle of Wight before?  Did you enjoy it?

And if you’re on the south coast, then I’ve also got a handy travel guide to Deal, in Kent.
