Fashion Conscience

For quite some time now I’ve been recommending Fashion Conscience as a great website stocking a wide range of ethical fashion.  Undoubtedly they do stock a great range of ethical fashion. However, a reader got in touch today alerting me to their allegedly terrible refund process.

I say allegedly as I’ve never had to return anything to them. However, the reader directed me to this review website. At the time of writing, the website had 39 terrible reviews about the Fashion Conscience return process. A common theme was that people were waiting months and months to get a refund on unsuitable purchases. Others complained about orders not arriving.

Fashion Conscience Tweets

Not wanting to rubbish them on the strength of one site I did a search on Twitter. Here I wanted to see what people are saying about Fashion Conscience. Quite a few tweets backing up the review website appeared:

Interestingly, I’ve also noticed that Fashion Conscience doesn’t appear to reply to any tweets, positive or negative.

Ethical fashion needs fair and ethical companies running them. As such, I’m disappointed to see these allegations against them.  While I have no way to verify if these claims against Fashion Conscience are true or not, in light of the lack of responses to customers on Twitter I feel uneasy directing readers towards their site.  I have removed their affiliate advertising from my sidebars, and over the next little while will be going through my archives removing any affiliate links I may have added.  I also won’t be adding any links to their site or recommending them in future ethical fashion posts until things change.

All is not lost. I’ll continue to highlight all of the great ethical fashion companies out there on Moral Fibres (of whom there are many).  I’ve got a directory full of ethical clothing brands for women, and another with ethical clothing brands for men. You can also check out my ethical fashion category to see other great ethical retailers.

Ethical Gloves, Hats, Scarves for Winter

ethical gloves

In the market for some ethical gloves, hats, or scarves this winter? I don’t blame you, it’s been blooming cold! The good news is I’ve rounded up some of my ethical favourites for you so you don’t have to search too hard.

We experienced our first big frost of the season here in Edinburgh last week. It caught me by surprise, and I had to dig out my trusty hat and scarf from the back of the wardrobe to keep warm when out and about.

Sadly my poor hands were freezing cold as I’m in dire need of some new gloves, after losing my trusty pair on the bus to work. As such, I’ve been searching online for some new ethical ones.

Guide to Ethical Gloves, Hats and Scarves

If you’re in need of an ethical winter warmer too then here is my round-up of some of my favourite ethical gloves, winter hats, and scarves that I’ve come across.

People Tree

Fairtrade stalwarts People Tree* always has a great collection of hats, gloves, and scarves. These ethical gloves (£25) and hat (£22), for example, are hand knitted in 100% pure wool. The pom-poms are then made from strands of recycled wool for an extra eco touch.

Think Boutique

Ethical fashion shop Think Boutique also has a chic selection of winter warmers. This blue and pink polka dot circle scarf (£45) and mittens (£29) are a stylish way to keep warm in winter.
