A Beautiful Secondhand Chic Hertfordshire Home

kitchen made from fruit crates

Take a tour around this beautiful Hertfordshire home that oozes secondhand chic.

I love a good virtual snoop around other people’s houses.  I stumbled upon this beautiful Victorian terraced house in Hertfordshire, on the House to Home website and fell in love with how the owners have cleverly repurposed old materials and furniture to really stunning and unique effect.

The Secondhand Chic Kitchen

Check out the kitchen cabinets made from reclaimed wood. And who doesn’t want a sign that says Booby Traps?!

For the kitchen, the owners repurposed the original floorboards and fruit crates to make the doors. They also used reclaimed shelving to maximise their storage.

The Living Room

The crate theme continues in the living room.  The owners couldn’t find a large sofa that they liked anywhere. Instead, they made the sofa’s wooden base from salvaged fruit crates, and then added their own cushions, for a homemade sofa that just invites you to sit on it.

How cosy does this living room look? I can really imagine myself sitting on that chair on a snowy day, a good book in hand, and a steaming hot cup of tea just within reach. What I especially love is that the mirror frame was made from a door frame found in a salvage yard, for that secondhand chic touch.

The Bathroom

Moving on to the bathroom, and I’m not surprised to see that the carpentry theme continues. Here, the bathroom echoes the rest of the house, with this custom rustic vanity unit. I love the vintage mirror, paired with modern sanitary ware.

What do you think?  Is it to your taste?  Would you consider making your own sofa? I have to say I am intrigued!

And do check out some other house tours on the blog. This North Yorkshire house tour is a favourite, as is this beautiful house full of recycled finds.

Beautiful London House Tour

Enjoy this beautiful London house tour, where this beautifully decorated home is packed with secondhand treasures.

I have to admit, I am partial to a good house tour.  We’re still working on our house (I know, it’s only been a year…).  Excitingly we’re currently working with an architect to add a small extension so that we can have the luxury of an upstairs bathroom.

This means that all work on the upstairs of our house, and our hallway and stairs have to wait until this work has been done.  This is so incredibly frustrating. Particularly as the bedrooms upstairs are in such desperate need of renovation. Think holes in walls, 20-year-old orange carpet, etc.

In the meantime, I am living vicariously through other people’s beautifully designed and furnished homes.  This is in the vain hope that one day (hopefully by the end of this year!), our home will look at least half as good as these stunning homes!

Caroline’s Stunning London House Tour

One house I’ve been swooning over online is that of Caroline Rowland, editor of 91 Magazine.  Her London home is, I’m sure you’ll agree, simply stunning.

Like all of the houses I’ve featured here on Moral Fibres in the past, her house has largely been furnished with secondhand finds. Be it from eBay, car boot sales, Gumtree, charity shops, and antique shops – with the odd new item thrown in for good mix.   It really is proof that secondhand doesn’t mean that you have to compromise your style when it comes to furnishing your home.

Have a look for yourself at Caroline’s stunning home in this beautiful London house tour!

Enjoyed this?  I have more house tours just like this one right this way!
