If you love exploring eco-friendly technologies, then you are going to love my sneak peek into the upcoming Briiv Pro, which is currently crowdfunding to launch in 2024.

I’ve worked with Briiv in the past, in this review of the original Briiv. If you’re new to Briiv, then this brand has been pioneering sustainable air filters that are as effective as they are kind to the planet.

Now the Briiv Pro is bringing to the table some exciting upgrades and innovations to further improve the air quality in your home the eco-friendly way.

Firstly, What Is Briiv?

The Briiv Pro air filter surrounded by plants

Briiv is an air purifier brand, that as well as cleaning up your air, is cleaning up the planet.

Conventional filters aren’t recyclable and need to be replaced every 6-8 months. This leads to an estimated 6000 tonnes of HEPA filters being sent to landfill each year.

Looking to change things, Briiv uses 90% natural and renewable materials to make its purifiers right here in the UK, making it the most sustainable air filter brand around.

The original Briiv uses two fully compostable and biodegradable filters – sustainably sourced moss, and coconut – to filter air and improve your indoor air quality. Low maintenance, these don’t need watering and only need to be changed once a year.

It also uses a nano-matrix filter to trap fine dust and harmful particles. Instead of plastic, the nano-matrix filter is made from spun glass which is pleated to create the matrix. The nano matrix filter also contains activated carbon (from waste walnut shells!) which can remove odours and toxins from the air. As it’s made from glass, this is the only filter element that is not compostable. However, it contributes a lot less waste than standard HEPA filters.

The air pulled through each of these layers, capturing different-sized particles. This means that pollen, allergens, bacteria, mould spores, harmful fine dust, and VOCs, are trapped quickly, quietly, and in an energy-efficient manner.

It’s the natural micro-structures of these natural materials that make this trio so effective at purifying the air. In fact, Briiv says that running one of its air purifiers is equal to having 3,043 medium-sized houseplants in your home. Yet costing just £3.64 to run a year, it’s not going to send your energy bills sky-rocketing.

The Briiv Pro

While the original Briiv has set a high standard, the Briiv Pro takes this eco-friendly concept to the next level.

It continues to embrace sustainable design and energy efficiency concepts but its performance has been ramped up.

Despite costing the same to run as the original model, the Briiv Pro is now more than twice as effective. This means one Briiv Pro is equal to having around 6900 medium-sized houseplants in your home. I’m not sure it would even be possible to cram that many plants into my home, but the Pro packs it into one small filter.

And here’s where it gets even more exciting – the Briiv Pro is not just an air filter. It’s the world’s first AI-integrated air filter. Pop it into Canary Mode and an in-built AI monitors your home’s air quality. This means it steps up its game when needed, by automatically sensing and tackling poor air quality.

Whether you’ve burnt your toast or enjoyed a cosy candle-lit dinner, the Briiv Pro has got it covered, removing odours and toxins intelligently. It also means no more forgetting to turn on your air filter.

The Briiv app also gets a makeover too. With the new version, you can schedule when you want your air filter to run. You can also link up multiple Briiv units in your home, and even sync it with your Alexa devices. It’s like having a personal air quality assistant at your fingertips.

Beyond Just Clean Air

Of course, it’s not just about clean air. Staying true to its roots, Briiv Pro maintains its commitment to sustainability. The filters remain low waste, with the majority of them being home compostable, so you’re adding only very little landfill.

Briiv is also dedicated to circular practices. You can send your air filter unit back when you’re done, and they’ll transform it into a new one. This minimises waste and promotes a more sustainable approach to consumer electronics.

What’s Next?

With its AI upgrades, improved efficiency, and sustainable practices, the Briiv Pro is poised to be a game-changer when it comes to keeping our homes fresh. If this idea excites you, do help support Briiv on Kickstarter to help bring the Briiv Pro to homes in 2024.
