Eco-Friendly & Ethical Gift Ideas for Mother’s Day

An eco-friendly gift, with a blue text box that says ethical gift ideas for mother's day.

All the ideas are hopefully a little more budget-friendly, starting at £4.99 and coming in at no more than £33.

The Flora Lab Candles

Various products from the Flora Lab, including candles, wax melts, and reed diffusers on a table next to flowers.

The Flora Lab Candles (available at Not On The High Street from £23.95) are a lovely sustainable choice for mums this Mother’s Day. Each candle is hand poured, using natural plant waxes, rather than paraffin wax that’s derived from fossil fuels.

The Flora Lab is also committed to zero waste. As such, all of its products and postal packaging are designed to be reusable, recyclable or refillable. Meanwhile, it continually sources sustainable, ethical and cruelty-it’sfree ways of creating stand-out scented candles.

A Sustainable Hamper

If you’re looking for a decadent treat for your mum, try The British Hamper Co (from £32.97). Perfect for those wanting to support local bakers, brewers, producers, and roasters, its gift boxes are filled with with delicious produce sourced from British artisans and independent producers.

There are heaps of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. And all of the food and drink items selected for the hampers are sourced based on the quality of provenance and taste. Many products have also won the prestigious Great Taste Gold award from the Guild of Fine Food.

If your mum is into all things natural and organic, then The Natural Skincare Recipe Book (£18.99 from Waterstones) is a great gift idea. Packed full of easy-to-follow recipes, Kate shows you how to make your own skincare products using raw, organic and natural ingredients that are good for you and the planet.

From lavender toner to a calming oat face mask – there are heaps of great recipes that will leave you feeling sustainably pampered. I’ve got a copy, and find myself turning to it again and again.

Evolve Gift Set

If premade skincare is more your mum’s thing, then look no further than a gift set from sustainable skincare brand Evolve Organic Beauty (from £22.40).

With a focus on natural and certified organic ingredients, responsible production right here in the UK, and environmentally friendly packaging, Evolve ticks a lot of sustainable boxes. Plus all of its products are approved by both the Leaping Bunny Programme and the Vegan Society, so as well as being kind to your skin, it’s kind to animals too.

I’m a huge fan of Evolve’s products – particularly the moisturiser and serum, which I use every day. So as a mum myself, I can guarantee your mum will love this!

Aesop Hand Cream

As I get older, the more love I have for fancy hand cream. If your mum loves a good hand cream too, then may I recommend my current favourite – Aesop’s Resurrection Hand Cream (available at Space NK for £27). This rich blend of botanicals soothes and hydrates the skin without leaving hands greasy. Plus, with a heady citrus and herb aroma, it’s a real treat for the senses.

In terms of sustainability credentials, all Aesop products are vegan, and it does not test its formulations or ingredients on animals. Aesop is also Leaping Bunny approved and a Certified B Corporation.

For mums with a sweet tooth, then try Cocoa Loco this Mother’s Day – available at Not On The High Street from £4.99. This West Sussex chocolatier offers heaps of tasty options at a range of different price points – including vegan options if your mum follows a plant-based diet.

Cocoa Loco’s chocolate is always, organic, Fairtrade certified, and palm oil-free. And in an added eco bonus, the packaging is all plastic-free, and is packaged in home-compostable or recyclable materials.
