If you want a mattress that has been made from natural materials that have been grown without the use of harmful chemicals then you will want to opt for an organic mattress.

An organic mattress is one that is made with certified natural materials, such as certified cotton, wool or natural latex, which are grown or produced without the use of chemical fertilisers, pesticides, or other chemical inputs.

It’s quite a niche market, so to help you out, I’ve compiled this guide to organic mattress brands available in the UK.

Whilst each mattress brand featured isn’t fully organic – as most use some materials that cannot achieve organic certification – I’ve looked for brands that use a decent amount of organic components in them.

I’ve outlined the key features, including pricing details (correct as of February 2025) and warranty lengths. I’ve also included other key facts, such as details about whether each brand offers things like sleep trials and mattress recycling schemes for your old mattress. These can all help you to find the right mattress for you.

Materials

Naturalmat mattresses are made from high-quality, organic, and biodegradable materials. It primarily uses certified organic wool sourced from local farms in the southwest of England. Other materials used include certified organic cotton, which is used to cover each mattress. Organic coir (the fibres from coconut husks) adds structure and support. Materials

Snoozel Green’s commitment to sustainable materials is impressive. It uses only organic certified natural latex that is sourced from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified sustainably managed rubber tree groves.

This FSC certification ensures that the forest where the latex is sourced from is managed in a way that protects biodiversity, whilst benefiting the lives of local people and workers.

Meanwhile, Snoozel Green’s cotton is certified organic by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). This is grown and processed in Southern India to the highest organic standards and is unbleached and undyed for the smallest environmental footprint. And even the wool used is also certified organic.

Some mattresses are treated with fire-retardant chemicals. Not in Snoozel Green’s case. Its latex is blended with the natural mineral graphite, which makes it fire retardant without the use of potentially toxic chemicals.
